Bainbridge Seattle Ferry Engagement | Seattle, Washington | Andrea + Emmett

Andrea + Emmett | Bainbridge Ferry Engagement Session, Seattle WA

//

Ferry engagements have definitely become very popular recently with my clients and I’m not mad about it. I love pushing outside of my comfort zone and trying new locations and ideas. It’s a perfect little adventure to add to your engagement session.

It was important for Andrea and Emmett to capture a part of Seattle that some people tend to overlook. A lot of people love shooting downtown, at the infamous Discovery Park, or getting the Space Needle in their photos - so when Andrea mentioned doing something on the ferry boat, I quickly agreed!

Of course, our ferry systems are used for a lot of people to transport themselves to and from work, so I’ve learned quickly that being strategic about timing is EVERYTHING. Not only are you wanting to stay away from rush hour, but also watching for sporting events. I advise most couples who want to do their engagement sessions on a ferry, to do them during the week and during slow hours. Andrea, Emmett and I found ourselves on the ferry early in the afternoon - during PEEK sun hour. I know a lot of photographers tend to stray away from harsh lighting but I personally LOVE IT. It allows you to be creative and try new things, and I couldn’t envision anything more THEM than these photos. The harsh light, shadow effects and editorial vibes couldn’t have been better. The ferry was empty, and we had the whole deck to ourselves.

After their engagement session, we went and grabbed dinner and happy hour - giving me more time to get to know them and create a lovely relationship that in turn only enhanced their wedding day experience.
