No matter what time of year, getting married in the city is always a good choice. Whether it’s a beautiful sunny day, or a complete monsoon - the location options for portraits are immense. This is why urban weddings hold a special place in my heart as a creative. There is endless opportunities, endless nooks and crannies - indoor and outdoor that clients will swoon over in their galleries.

Like Caitlin and Ted, most couples who are choosing to have their wedding during the off season (aka the winter in Washington) already know that their chances of having terrible weather are high. Especially the winter of 2019/2020 where it rained 80 days straight. My couples have learned to confide in me, knowing I will take complete care of them and have the best back up plan for portraits. And I always follow through.

When I first arrived at Caitlin’s getting ready suite, the weather looked promising. Sun casted through the big bay windows, and I, like all photographers let out a sigh of relief. Which ended up being a relief too soon. Toward the end of first look, the rain came. But with the trust of my handy clear umbrellas, my plan B came into action and it couldn’t have turned out better. Our concrete jungle protected us during what felt like a mini monsoon sweeping through the streets. The wind was unstoppable, and the rain was coming down so hard it  ricocheted off the sidewalks. And we laughed, cuddled and make the very best of what we KNEW would come.

This is a part of my job that I take a lot of pride in. I take care of my couples and I do my best to make the process as easy as possible. The last thing couples want to do is stress on their wedding day, and a lot of the time weather is a big stressor! Of course everyone wants beautiful weather on their wedding day, that is a given. But in a place like Washington, there is ALWAYS a chance. Having vendors who confidently have back up plans when necessary is a huge piece of customer service. And it is my mission to best serve my clients and make them feel important. Little things like this, make clients feel important. The more important they feel, the better the day goes, and the better the end product of their images go.

Being caught in the rain created laughter and smiles instead of heartache and stress. And it’s always icing on the cake when the bride’s dress stays perfectly white and crisp through it all. And that is something I’m so happy to provide to my current and potential couples.

I am SO obsessed with how Caitlin and Ted’s wedding photos turned out. It was so much fun to work with them and their wonderful families. From the champagne pop, to first look with dad, to being caught in the rain in our beloved city, to dress change and a dancing party - it was everything these two imagined their day would be. I know I say this often, but the more I shoot weddings, the more I realize how much of an honor it really is. Their wedding was two months ago, and if it wasn’t for these wonderful, tangible record of images that I am able to give them, they would only be able to relive their day via their thoughts - and most of the time couples can’t remember half the things that happened. Not to mention, all the moments they weren’t there to witness involving their guests.

Being a wedding photographer really is such an important job, and my heart is so very full. Thank you so much to Caitlin and Ted for having me! Here is a glimpse into how amazing their wedding day was!
